Cathy Sherring

I am based in Hampshire UK, close to the Jurassic coast of Dorset and the wildlife of the New Forest. These places give me inspiration. I love noticing the colours and patterns in nature. 

When I am not painting seascapes or landscapes, I'm enjoying painting small creatures, plants, animals and people. 

I love animals in particular, as they have a lot of character and personality!

I work on a small scale due to having a small space. Occasionally, I get out the sewing machine and dabble in a bit of fabric art or patch work. I've also made purses, pencil cases, and a handbag.

 

I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in the 1990s with a 2:1 Fine Art Degree. I rented a studio for about 10 years after that. 

I took the route of professional Mental Health Nursing for about 20 years before returning to painting. I have worked from home since 2020.

 Background : "Sweetpea" our dear guinea pig who passed away earlier this year. She was 7 years old and had outlived 3 other girls, Rosie, Sylvie and Sydney.
